Recently the OCA has teamed with the Ontario Coalition of Mental Health Professionals to lobby Ontario’s Minister of Health and Long-Term Care to regulate all counsellors/ therapists/chaplains who provide mental health services across the province along with psychotherapists the way other health professions such as medicine and nursing are already regulated.

Presently, the Minister has been advised to single out psychotherapists for regulation and leave out thousands of other counsellors, therapist and chaplains. The Minister has also been advised to give psychotherapists the exclusive right to offer services that are currently being offered also by counsellors, therapists, and chaplains.

OCA is presently in the process of developing a set of standards for the provision of Spiritual and Religious care. We have a sub committee working on this matter, watch for a report in the near future.
